The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

People, cafes, vendors, street merchants, buskers, historic buildings, art installations and much more. The power of observation underpins the art of great street photography. Learning to "see" interesting detail is a practised skill and we introduce you to easy methods that will open your photographer's eye and expose you to a world that is alive with detail. The most rewarding part of the class is learning how to approach interesting people and have them willingly pose for you.

We will also go over settings, focusing techniques and lens choices common to street photography to help us capture those random chance encounters.

Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

When teaching my 5th grade class watercolors for their landscape project, I always do one with them. As we go along, I point out places where I have used a certain technique or how I resolved a problem I incurred along the way. This come from a photograph in the Our State magazine but I cannot find the photographer's name at the moment.

1st. Watercolor...This piece was done from a photo reference of a home my wife liked. A dream of ours to live near the coast. As watercolor isn't my usual medium, this was my first attempt at a complete work. I seem to bring more illustration techniques to this medium. I am trying to paint more loosely and learn more light techniques. My main interest in joining watercolor groups is for inspiration, viewing others works, styles and to learn more. I am flattered that Denver Watercolor Group has

This work was created using a ? spontaneous watercolour? technique. The first layer of colour was applied randomly wet on wet. The paint created the framework for the scene, which I enhanced with detailing. I love the way watercolours can paint themselves, almost as if the scene was just waiting to be revealed and I just uncovered it.

Teaching watercolor landscapes to my 5th grade students, I, also, do one with the classes. Along the way, I will show certain techniques or explain specific problems with the painting as it was being created. This is my interpretation of a photo taken by Tommy White that was printed in the Our State magazine.
