Christina Woods
Hello everyone!

My name is Christina I'm in my third year at VCU Arts Kinetic Imaging and Sculpture, but I've been studying watercolor painting since high school. I'm so excited to join the Richmond watercolor group as an instructor and lead fun high-energy painting sessions!!
August Conti
August has been painting since his freshman year of high school, but got interested in watercolor during a landscape painting class in college. He is so excited to show you the creative freedom that comes from watercolor painting. He loves the challenge of painting around the beautiful streets of Richmond, from the nature and plants around Belle Isle to the architecture and bustling streets of Shockoe Bottom. The landscapes around the city offer such a wide variety of subjects that August would love to paint with you.

Title or Location: Lambing Season
I live in the Staffordshire countryside so this painting was inspired by the local farming community. This time of year is lambing season. So I wanted to celebrate that with a watercolour painting. It's also a reminder that spring is just around the corner.

I almost threw this away. Sometimes I have a hard time "pushing through" a painting that I am doing. I'm tempted to stop and say "this is not good, I won't finish it, it's awful". I painted the sky background a year ago and the painting just sat in a corner. One day I decided to just "play" with this piece of paper and I loved what happened! Quite often I find that I need to let my artwork just cook in a corner. Every once in a while I surprise myself!

I use my small watercolor kit to document the places I experience while traveling and working on tje road. I was able to spend most of the winter in Arizona, spending time in the unique Sonoran desert. Where each saguaro cacti has its own personality within the Sonoran's surreal landscape.

After I had joint replacement surgery on my left thumb, my dominant hand, I still wanted to paint. I thought that I'd just play with color using my right hand to wield the brush. To my amazement, I painted with more spontaneity and with a looseness I've been trying to achieve before. Maybe I'm ambidextrous and have only just discovered it (I'm 76).
